Covet

Covet 是一个动词。它强调的是一种强烈的、往往是不正当的欲望,想要得到别人已经拥有的东西。

  1. He has long coveted his neighbor’s beautiful garden. (他长期以来一直觊觎邻居美丽的花园。)
  2. She won the coveted prize for the best young actress. (她赢得了人人觊觎的最佳年轻女演员奖。)
  3. The tenth commandment says “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house.” (第十诫说“不可贪图邻人的房屋”。)

记:Cov-et。发音类似“渴望它”。深深地渴望得到别人的东西。或者记:Cover (覆盖)。想把别人的东西“盖上”变成自己的。
