Defunct
Defunct 是一个形容词。常用来形容那些曾经存在但现在已经关门倒闭的公司、报纸或法律。
- The old factory has been defunct for over twenty years. (那家旧工厂已经废弃二十多年了。)
- He worked for a now-defunct newspaper in London. (他在伦敦一家现已停办的报社工作过。)
- This law is effectively defunct, as no one enforces it anymore. (由于没有人再执行，这项法律实际上已经失效了。)

de-(离开/完成) - 词根：
-funct-(功能，如 function) - 含义：没有功能的。
联想 function (功能)。De- (去掉) + funct (功能) -> 不再起作用了。或者联想 defunct 听起来像 dead。
