Derivative

Derivative 作为一个评价词时是贬义的,指某作品只是在模仿别人,没有原创性。

  1. Her early paintings were quite derivative of the Impressionists. (她早期的绘画作品非常模仿印象派。)
  2. The film’s plot felt a bit derivative and predictable. (这部电影的情节感觉有点老套且可预测。)
  3. In mathematics, a derivative represents the rate of change of a function. (在数学中,导数代表函数的变换率。)
  • 前缀de- (离开/自)
  • 词根-riv- (河流,如 river, rival)
  • 含义:从主河道流出来的分流 -> 派生。

联想 derive (起源于)。Derivative 就是“起源于”别人的东西,而不是自己原创的。
